Reign On SS Puppy Ownership Policies
Before contacting us with interest in a puppy, please carefully review the following policies. These are in place to protect both our puppies and their future families.
1. Placement Criteria
Reign On SS has many years of experience with the Standard Schnauzer breed. Standard Schnauzers are not suitable for every household—they require regular grooming, consistent training, and dedicated companionship.

1. Placement Criteria
Reign On SS has many years of experience with the Standard Schnauzer breed. Standard Schnauzers are not suitable for every household—they require regular grooming, consistent training, and dedicated companionship.
For the wellbeing of our puppies, we reserve the right to decline placements we feel are not in their best interest. Puppies will not be placed in:
- Homes with children under 6 (exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
- Apartments
- Homes without a secure physical fence (invisible fences are not accepted)
- Families who plan to use doggy daycare services
2. Application & Waitlist
- All prospective owners must complete and submit an application. This questionnaire helps us get to know you so we can properly match you with a puppy.
- Not all applications will be approved. Reign On SS reserves the right to decline an application if we do not feel confident in the match.
- Approved applications will be placed on our waiting list.
- To join the waiting list, an application and a non-refundable $200 deposit are required.
- Please note: phone calls, emails, or prior contact cannot substitute for an application.
3. Puppy Sales Contract
- Puppies are sold as live-animal sales, not adoptions.
- Each sale includes a legally binding purchasing contract.
- All sales are final.
- If you are uncertain about your ability to meet the contract requirements, we strongly recommend reviewing a copy before requesting an application.
4. Breeding Rights & Show Homes
- Puppies are sold as companions only, with AKC Limited Registration.
- Breeding rights are not offered.
- Exception: If an applicant intends to show in conformation, puppies may be sold under a show/competition contract. In these cases:
- Reign On SS will retain co-ownership until show and health requirements (including OFA testing) are fulfilled.
5. Spay/Neuter Policy
- All companion puppies are sold with a spay/neuter contract.
- Owners must spay or neuter their puppy between 12–18 months of age (not sooner, not later).
- Puppies under a show contract are exempt.
6. Physical Alterations
- Puppies are sold with natural ears, docked tails, and dew claws removed.
- Ear cropping is available only for show puppies and must be arranged in advance.
- Cropping costs start at $350+, which is added to the purchase price.
7. Health Guarantee
- Puppies come with a health guarantee against DCM (Dilated Cardiomyopathy).
- Parents are clear of hip dysplasia, DCM, and have OFA-certified clear eyes.
- Puppies are up-to-date on vaccinations and deworming, examined by a licensed veterinarian, and temperament-tested using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test.
- Owners may choose to complete additional health testing (hips at 2 years, eyes at 1 year).
8. Return Policy
- Reign On SS will always accept the return of any puppy or dog we have bred, at no cost to the owner.
- Returned dogs will be rehomed appropriately.
- Dogs bred by Reign On SS may never be surrendered to a shelter or rescue under any circumstances.
9. Deposits & Payments
- A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a puppy once one is available.
- Deposits are due within 48 hours of confirmation that a puppy has been matched to you.
- Deposits are applied toward the final purchase price.
- No specific puppy is promised until 8 weeks of age. Deposits secure a spot within a litter, not an individual puppy.
- The final balance is due at pick-up.
10. Pick-Up Policy
- Puppies are not shipped under any circumstances.
- All puppies must be picked up in person at our home.
- For out-of-state buyers, we can meet you at Huntsville, AL Airport.
11. AKC Registered Names
- All puppies will be registered with the AKC under a name chosen by Reign On SS according to the litter’s theme.
- Registered names cannot be changed.
- Owners are free to use any call name at home.
- Example: Our “Heggie” is officially registered as Ch. Reign On Drops of Jupiter.
12. Training Requirement
- Owners must commit to proper training of their puppy.
- At minimum, each puppy must be enrolled in two obedience classes taught by a certified dog trainer.
- Standard Schnauzers are intelligent, energetic, and strong-willed; they do not “grow into” good behavior without guidance. Proper training and consistency are essential to ensure a well-mannered adult dog.
