It All Started With Annie: Carrying On a Legacy
Inspired by Annie, our first Standard Schnauzer, and Summer, the foundation of our program.
Every story has a beginning, and ours began not only with Annie but with the friendship and guidance of Chris Faulk of Elkhart Standard Schnauzers. Chris was more than a breeder—he was our mentor and dear friend for over a decade. From him came both Annie and Summer, the two dogs who built the foundation of everything we are today. We owe Chris so much: from the life-changing addition of Summer to the extraordinary gift of Annie, his influence has shaped our journey and our love for the breed.
Annie (GCHB CH Elkhart Terramar Suzanne Sugarbaker CD BN FDC CAX DCAT CGCA CGCU TKI ATT) was our very first Standard Schnauzer—the one who introduced us to the breed and opened the door to an entirely new world. With her sparkling eyes, sharp wit, and larger-than-life personality, Annie was everything we hoped for and more. She taught us the joy of training, the thrill of showing, and most importantly, the deep bond that forms when you share life with a Schnauzer. To this day, Annie is still going strong, with more than 20 AKC titles across conformation, performance, and sport—a true testament to her brilliance and heart.
Annie’s accomplishments tell the story of her versatility. In 2016, she was awarded Select Bitch at the Texas Working Dog Association of Greater Houston Specialty during SSCA National Specialty Week. In 2019, she shone on one of the most prestigious stages in the world, earning Best of Opposite Sex at the Westminster Kennel Club Show. She went on to collect multiple versatility honors, including the SSCA Versatility Award in 2021 and Potomac Valley Standard Schnauzer Club Versatility Awards in 2017 and 2021. That same year, she was named PVSSC Obedience Dog of the Year. In 2022, she closed the year with an Award of Excellence at the AKC National Championship in Orlando, FL. Each of these wins reflects her determination, her joy for the work, and her remarkable ability to rise to any challenge. Annie is, and always will be, our once-in-a-lifetime dog—the one who made our dreams come true.
Not long after Annie came Summer (GCH CH Elkhart's Suddenly Last Summer BCAT CGCA CGCU TKN ATT), our foundation bitch, also entrusted to us by Chris. If Annie was the spark, Summer was the steady flame that built the heart of our program. She combined elegance, working ability, and joy in a way that set the standard for everything we strive to preserve in the breed.
Summer’s time in the ring was equally memorable. In 2017, she earned Select Bitch at Royal Canin, followed by multiple Group Wins in the Owner-Handled Working Group and several Best of Breed titles. One of her proudest moments came with her win at the North Georgia Working Dog Specialty. But Summer’s greatest impact was as our foundation bitch. She gave us not only quality and type, but also the steady temperament and versatility that continue to define our dogs today. Her influence can be seen in every new generation stepping into the ring, carrying forward her strength, beauty, and spirit.
The Legacy Behind the Lines
Annie and Summer may have been our beginning, but their roots connect deeply to some of the most accomplished Standard Schnauzers in breed history. Our lines include champions whose names are etched into the story of the breed itself—dogs who left their mark not only in the ring but in shaping the generations that followed:
Our Commitment to Health and the Future
Preserving this legacy means more than show wins—it means ensuring the long-term health and well-being of the breed. That’s why we are proud participants in the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) Program, and why every one of our dogs receives full health clearances before ever entering our program. These results are easily verified through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), giving peace of mind to our families and ensuring the integrity of our breeding practices.
We believe Standard Schnauzers thrive when they are not only beautiful but also strong, healthy, and ready for the work they were bred to do. Whether in the conformation ring, performance events, obedience, or as devoted family companions, health and soundness remain our foundation.
Carrying the Legacy Forward
As Annie continues to inspire us and Summer’s influence lives on in every generation, their legacy shines in the next chapter: Heggie (GCH CH Reign On Drops of Jupiter CGC TKN), Summer’s daughter. With elegance, intelligence, and a spark all her own, Heggie has already carved out an impressive career. From winning Best Bred By Best of Breed at the AKC National Championship in 2019, to earning Select Bitch at both Royal Canin (2022) and the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show (2023), her achievements prove she is every bit her mother’s daughter. Along the way, she has collected multiple Owner-Handled honors, a Top 10 Conformation ranking, and a Bronze level in Owner-Handler points.
Through Heggie, we see Summer’s grace carried forward and Annie’s pioneering spirit burning just as bright. She reminds us that this is not just about show wins—it’s about preserving the type, temperament, and joy that make Standard Schnauzers extraordinary.
Carrying Chris’s Gift Forward
As we look to the future, we do so with gratitude for Chris Faulk, whose friendship and mentorship made all of this possible. His belief in us, and the gift of Annie and Summer, set us on this path. The dogs we love and the program we build are as much his legacy as ours.
It all started with Annie.
It grew with Summer.
It carries on through Heggie.
And today, strengthened by Chris’s influence and the lines he entrusted to us, their legacy lives in every wagging tail, every proud show ring moment, and every joyful homecoming.
