Annie: Our first Standard Schnauzer, Annie… where do I begin? Annie is truly my once-in-a-lifetime dog, the kind of companion you dream of but never think you’ll actually have. From the moment she joined our family, she has brought joy, determination, and a spark that continues to shine no matter the challenge or stage of life. Annie came into our lives at just one year old from Chris Faulk of Elkhart Standard Schnauzers. This was the beginning of a 10-year friendship, and I owe so much to Chris for the incredible gift of Annie. Even at such a young age, her presence was undeniable—confident, intelligent, and full of character. It didn’t take long to realize she was destined for greatness in the ring. From the start, Annie proved herself, winning at numerous shows, including the Eukanuba/AKC Championship in Florida, where she was Winner’s Bitch in 2014. She went on to secure multiple Best of Breed awards and in 2015 earned her CH title with Donna Hills of Bravo Kennels, setting the foundation for an exceptional career. After her Championship, Annie entered the ring with her owner, Katrina Maddux, and together they formed a team that accomplished incredible milestones. In 2016, Annie was awarded Select Bitch at the SSCA National Specialty week. On the first day of the show, at the Texas Working Dog Association of Greater Houston SSCA Supported Entry, Annie went Select Bitch over 40 other bitches under Judge Marion Kidd. That unforgettable moment became one of the highlights of her early career and a memory etched forever in our hearts. Annie’s momentum carried her into 2017, where she finished her GCH title with Katrina at the Atlanta Spring show. That weekend, she not only took Best of Opposite Sex but also Select Bitch, proving her consistency and quality among the nation’s finest dogs. Annie went on to secure a Group 2 in the Working Group National Owner Handler Series, demonstrating her versatility and ability to shine against top competition. To cap off this amazing year, Annie earned her Bronze Grand Championship by being awarded Best of Opposite under judge Jimmy Moses, and also received the Potomac Valley Standard Schnauzer Club’s Versatility Award. Adding to the excitement, Annie qualified for the NOHS finals at Royal Canin, where she finished as the #7 Standard Schnauzer in the country for NOHS in 2017. In 2018, Annie’s career reached another milestone as she competed at the prestigious 142nd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City. That same year, she expanded her skillset by earning her Trick Dog Novice title and her CA (Coursing Ability Test) title, showcasing her intelligence, trainability, and drive. In 2019, Annie closed her conformation career on a high note at the 143rd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, where she earned Best of Opposite Sex. It was the perfect moment to retire from the conformation ring—a crowning achievement that reflected the years of dedication, training, and teamwork. Retirement from the show ring did not slow Annie down, however. She continued to thrive in other venues, earning her BCAT, TKN, CGCA, FDC, and CAA titles, proving that her talents went far beyond beauty and structure. In 2020, Annie added to her list of coursing accomplishments by earning her DCAT, demonstrating her drive and love of the chase. In 2021, Annie entered the ring as a Veteran, showing that age could never dim her spirit. That year, she earned her Companion Dog (CD) title, her CAX, and her (V) Versatility Award from the SSCA. She also won her Veterans Class at the SSCA National Specialty, where her enduring quality and presence were on full display. As if that weren’t enough, Annie also earned her ATT (AKC Temperament Test) title, a testament to her stable and reliable nature both inside and outside of competition. In 2022, Annie and I traveled to the Royal Canin/AKC Obedience Classic in Orlando, FL. Competing there was an unforgettable experience, one filled with growth, learning, and camaraderie. At Royal Canin that same year, Annie shined once again, being awarded an Award of Excellence from the Veterans Class. Even at 9 years old, Annie commanded the ring with dignity and charisma, showing everyone that she still had what it took to stand among the best. In 2025, Annie added new achievements to her legacy by earning her Canine Good Citizen Urban (CGCU) title and her FITB (Fit Dog Bronze), demonstrating her adaptability and commitment to excellence in every area she pursues. Through it all, Annie has been more than just a competitor—she is family, a constant companion, and a daily reminder of how much joy dogs bring into our lives. When she’s not in the ring or working toward a new title, Annie enjoys the simple pleasures of life. She loves chasing squirrels with unmatched enthusiasm, darting across the yard in pursuit of her favorite quarry. She plays joyfully with her sister, showing her affectionate and playful side, and perhaps her most mischievous joy—she loves chasing chickens, a pastime that never fails to bring laughter and remind us of her spirited personality. Annie is owned, shown, and deeply loved by Katrina Maddux. She has built an incredible legacy, accomplishing dreams I never imagined possible. Annie has set the bar high, and every achievement with her has been a dream fulfilled. The next generation has some very big paws to fill. |
